How Can I Stop Energy Wasted In My Ducts?

Check and seal leaks as soon as possible The most obvious leaks are between sections of the ductwork. Check for separations between sections and, if there are any, join them back up and seal them with duct mastic. Larger gaps will need drywall tape with webs or heat approved tape. Minor holes can also be fixed using these tapes. Do not use rubber adhesive tapes with cloth backings, as they can detach easily.  Insulate your ducts Duct insulation will save a lot of energy. There are four types of duct insulators: insulation sleeves, self-adhesive foam with foil backing, fiberglass and cotton insulation, and bubble wrap with foil backing. Insulation sleeves come with adhesive strips that make them easy to install. You need to measure the length of insulation you need before purchase. They can contain foam, bubble wrap, or fiberglass with a foil surface that keeps moisture away. Self-adhesive foam can be wrapped around ductwork to minimize energy losses and dampen any noises from the system. They are easy to install even in tight spaces or irregularly sized ducts. Fiberglass and cotton insulation is available in a range of thicknesses so you can choose one depending on how much space you have around the duct and how much insulation you want. Bubble wrap is not the best insulator but is cheap. You will also need to make a space between the duct and the insulation for air to move through. This can be done using special spacers available for this purpose.  Place your ductwork in a conditioned space While insulation decreases energy loss, there may still be some energy escaping. Energy-conscious home owners can place their duct system within an area of the home that is part of the conditioned space. You can do this by adding dropped ceilings and placing the system over them, or you can also place the system in an inconspicuous corner of the room. Luckily, there is a simple way of removing these blemishes. You can mix a small amount of bleach into the pressure washer’s storage tank. However, you should make sure to only put no more than a cup of bleach into this tank. If you apply too much bleach to this mixture, it can remove the color from your building’s paint. Also, excess bleach on your siding can cause it to weaken. If you are worried about the bleach causing these problems for your building, you can substitute vinegar. An industry that is continually growing and becoming ever more important in our world is that of hydrocarbon recovery. Mud motors are used for a variety of drilling tasks including; directional drilling, straight hole drilling, and horizontal drilling. The mud motor is connected to the drill string in order to allow steering and turning of the drill bit. There is a power section of the mud motor which is usually a positive displacement pump. This is driven by fluid being pumped and circulation of that fluid. The fluid is pushed down the drillstring in order to rotate the bit. The fluid is also circulated in order to flush the rock fragments to the surface for disposal and analysis. One important thing of note is that mud motors allow some bend and flex. This is what allows the company to directionally drill.  Mud motor parts Top Sub—This connects the drill string to the mud motor itself.  Power Section—The function of the power section is to turn a part of the hydraulic energy into mechanical energy in the form of torque.  Bearing Section—This is what allows the actual mud motor to rotate. The mud motor will usually use state of the art rotary seals will be used to ensure that mud and oil do not enter the bearing housing. The importance of the mud motor The ability for companies to drill horizontally and directionally has really revolutionized the industry. When a geologist and engineer find an oil reserve it is often in a partitioned part of a formation. This means that the oil is hard to get to and drilling vertically will not allow for the oil to be properly recovered. In fact, if the company was to drill vertically through this formation, they would only get a small portion of the hydrocarbon available. By drilling vertically through the formation, they are able to maximize the amount of oil or gas that is recovered.
